“She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial.”
— Mark 14:8
There is something powerful about a woman who walks into a room carrying something precious and refuses to let the room determine what she does with it.
In Luke 7, we meet a woman whose reputation had already been established before she ever opened her mouth. People knew her past. They formed their opinions. They had already decided who she was.
But she walked in anyway.
And she brought her alabaster box with her.
She didn’t ask the room for permission.
She poured it out.
FUEL STOP
Have you ever walked into a room and wondered if you belonged there?
Maybe it was a new job.
A new community.
A group ryde.
A family gathering.
Or simply a space where everyone seemed to know each other except you.
And while everyone else saw you smiling and showing up, inside you were asking:
Do I belong here?
Am I enough?
Do I really have what it takes?
Here’s what I’ve learned: Sometimes the first act of courage isn’t confidence. It’s simply showing up.
You can be nervous and still walk through the door. You can be uncertain and still take the ryde.
You can be healing and still move forward. You can be afraid and still say, “I’m going anyway.”
That’s what fearless faith looks like. Not the absence of fear. The decision to move forward despite it.

FAITH REFLECTION
The woman with the alabaster box reminds us that what people see isn’t always what God sees.
The room saw her past.
Jesus saw her heart.
The room saw her reputation.
Jesus saw her worship.
The room saw who she had been.
Jesus saw who she was becoming.
And I think many of us live somewhere between those two realities: Who people say we are… and who God says we are.

So, let me ask you: What are you carrying?
Maybe it’s courage.
Maybe it’s wisdom.
Maybe it’s a dream you’ve been afraid to pursue.
Maybe it’s a testimony.
Maybe it’s forgiveness.
Maybe it’s grief.
Maybe it’s pain from something you’ve survived that nobody else knows about. You can be carrying something sacred and still struggle to believe you’re enough to carry it. That’s when we have to remember the woman with the alabaster box.
She didn’t need the room’s permission to pour out what she carried. And neither do you.
FAITH IN ACTION CHALLENGE

This month, I want you to stop and identify what you’re carrying.
Ask yourself: What has God placed inside of me that I’ve been afraid to pour out?
What gift have I been keeping hidden?
What story have I been afraid to share?
What dream have I talked myself out of?
What part of myself have I been shrinking to make other people comfortable? Then take one small step.
Walk into the room. Speak up. Start the thing. Take the ryde. Share the story. Extend the forgiveness. Use the gift.
LET’S PRAY

Father God,
Thank You for reminding us that what we carry has value. Help us stop allowing other people’s opinions, our past experiences, or our fears to define who we are. Give us the courage to walk into the rooms You’ve called us into without shrinking, apologizing, or questioning whether we belong. Help us recognize the gifts, stories, experiences, and wisdom You’ve placed inside of us. And when we’re tempted to keep everything sealed up because we’re afraid of how others will respond, remind us of the woman with the alabaster box. She didn’t wait for permission.
She poured it out.
Teach us to do the same.
Give us courage to show up.
Courage to heal.
Courage to grow.
Courage to move forward even when we’re afraid. And when we forget who we are, remind us that our worth was never determined by the room. What You placed inside of us is sacred.
In Jesus’ name We Pray
Amen.
